The book The Financialization of Housing: A Political Economy Approach, written by Manuel Aalbers and translated by Dr. Behzad Malekpour Asl, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at Shahid Beheshti University, has been published. The book was released for the first time in 2025 (1404 in the Iranian calendar), in 256 pages, by Shahid Beheshti University Press, and is priced at 2,500,000 IRR.
This work examines the process of financialization, which refers to the growing dominance of financial markets, institutions, and transactions within the economy and its wide-ranging impact on both micro- and macroeconomic structures. The book demonstrates that housing, like other economic sectors, is closely intertwined with the process of financialization, although this relationship has received limited attention in previous literature.
One of the book’s main themes is the exploration of the mutual dependency between housing and finance, offering a framework for analyzing this relationship within the political economy of contemporary capitalism.
